Enlargement: EU Life Sciences

As the European Union embraces its 10 new members, the future for the region looks to be an exciting one and the contributions of the new member countries cannot be underestimated. Research and development in the region is now at an all time high, and the Sixth Framework Programme, which is contributing to the creation of a comprehensive European Research Area (ERA), is providing a much-needed injection of funds, which is boosting breakthroughs in the life sciences making the EU a major international player in the field.

Both national governments and the wider EU are well aware of the huge impact that the life science industries are having on the region's health and wealth and are together in support of development in these fields. Now, with a shared vision, Europe can address the challenges and exploit the opportunities of the emerging techniques and technologies.
