HR Management US HR Management US Talking to HR leaders is always interesting. It’s a role in which you see all of life – from the delight in the voice of new hires when you offer them their dream job, to the pain etched on the faces of staff when unfortunate cutbacks have to be made. It’s unfortunate for the HR community that in the less pleasant assignments, we can be unfairly seen as the face of the business, and blamed for implementing the decisions of others. Especially because behind the scenes we all know that the same pressure on cost is being pushed down on HR as well. Given that the ‘fun’ parts of the HR function – bringing in the best talent, and then engaging, motivating, developing and rewarding it – all cost money, it can sometimes seem like a thankless task. It’s no surprise then that the talk of our profession recently has been about the challenge of HR adding value to the enterprise, and to stop being seen as a cost center. It is easy to outline this as a goal, but how are HR leaders putting these ideals into practice? HRM is published by GDS Publishing, a division of GDS International.
